Utsunomiya Line
From JNSwiki
The Utsunomiya Line (宇都宮線 Utsunomiya-sen) is the 159.9 kilometre portion of the JR East Tōhoku Main Line. It runs from Ueno Station to Kuroiso Station.
The line is proposed for extension to Tokyo Station via the Tohoku Through Line, currently under construction.
Although there is also the Tōbu Utsunomiya Line of Tōbu Railway, most references made to the "Utsunomiya Line" generally refer to JR East's line, especially in non-Tōbu environment or context. The Tōbu Utsunomiya Line is commonly just referred to as the "Tōbu Line" by residents of the neighbourhood.
Stations and service
●: Served by all trains |: Not served
- Trains classified as "Local" (not shown above) stop at all stations except Utsunomiya Freight Station.
^Limited service. Most trips originate/terminate at Hōshakuji
Summary of service
Most Utsunomiya line trains originate at Ueno and terminate at Utsunomiya, meaning that most trips along the length of the Utsunomiya Line require at least one transfer. Roughly every second Shōnan-Shinjuku Line travelling on the Utsunomiya line terminates at Koganei instead of Utsunomiya.
