Import Existing Pages From Wikipedia to JNS Wiki

JNS Wiki allows its contributing members the permissions to import existing pages from Wikipedia in to the JNS local wiki. The following instructions are used for the purpose to export from Wikipedia and import to JNS Wiki.

Before export/import of pages, make sure that the article you are wishing to import does not already exist in the database. This can be accomplished by a search. Many variations in pages may have redirects in place that will forward the search to the existing page.

Export From Wikipedia

In order for JNS Wiki to import a page, it must first be exported from Wikipedia.
Note all three check boxes are checked.

First, locate the page you wish to export from Wikipedia. At the top of the page that you wish to export in large letters will be the title of that page. Please copy this title verbatim.

In a new window or tab open up the following link: Wikipedia Export Page

Enter or paste the name(s) of the page(s) you wish to export, making note to click on the "Include templates" check box as this will import a the correct coding for each page to be displayed properly. (Failure to check this box may result in pages that appear incorrectly

You can enter as many page titles separated by a line in to this box.

Save the .xml file to a location on your PC (the desktop is usually the easiest) by clicking "EXPORT". All pages you have chosen for export will be saved a single .xml file, and you will only need to import the one file.

You have successfully exported pages from Wikipedia.

The page(s) will then upload to JNS Wiki.

After the upload is complete, please check the integrity of the pages you have imported as pages, codes, images, and other templates do not always import correctly, and may not appear or import at all if the batch importing large numbers of articles..

NOTE: Pages if they are redirected from other pages will not import, you must import the article page and the redirect page or the article page or reference pages may not import correctly.

If imported pages are correct, you have completed the import process. If pages do not appear correct, you may attempt to re-import the page(s) again, or manually correct the code manually.

For common misused terms ie EF66 that may appear in the data base as JNR Class EF66, a redirect should be used in place of importing or creating a new page. Duplicates of pages may cause a conflict in the validity of the content within and should be avoided..

Add the notice {{Fresh Import}} to the top of the page to notify other users that a newly imported page has been made available, and needs cleaning up. The notice will look like:
